HBEF work highlighted at the Sundance Film Festival in America
The documentary film that focuses on the work of HBEF, “A Small Act” has made a successful premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the United States of America, and has catapulted HBEF to a new level of international recognition, reports Chris Mburu, the Chair of HBEF, who recently attended the premiere in the American state of Utah.

What is HBEF?
The Hilde Back Education Fund, (HBEF) is a charitable community-based organization that assists children from poor families complete primary and secondary school education in Githunguri-Kenya.
It was founded by Chris Mburu in 2001 and has since been paying school fees for bright children from needy families. The Hilde Back Education Fund is registered under the laws of Kenya to pursue the following objectives:
- To provide education scholarship and other academic opportunities to bright children and from poor families and disadvantaged communities
- To unlock the unexplored potential in children and young persons from disadvantaged communities by making available to them a wide variety of new local and international opportunities in the areas of education, arts, sports, science and modern technology
- To inculcate public service values on the youth by encouraging them to participate in community development projects aimed at achieving commuity self-reliance and advancement
- To protect and promote the right of education for all, as provided for under international human rights instruments.
