A Small Act Documentary

A Film on HBEF Work

A documentary film that focuses on the work of HBEF has  been nominated for "Best Documentary" in the 2011 Emmy Awards. The film has also made a successful debut on the world stage, with popular appearances at key film festivals in America, Europe and the Caribbean.  Titled ‘A Small Act’, the film was recently aired on HBO in America and has been featured in major media outlets throughout the world.

‘A Small Act’ is an inspiring story which shows that a small act of kindness can have far reaching positive effect in the lives of others. It’s a story of hope and shows how each one of us can play a role in the education of a poor child in Kenya or elsewhere.

Some of the major film festivals that have screened the film include the Sundance Film Festival, the Edinburgh Film Festival, the Hot Docs Film Festival, the Los Angeles Film Festival, the Stockholm Film Festival and many others. To see more on the film’s media coverage click on “HBEF in the Media” or go to “www.asmallact.com”.

The Film has generated an immense amount of publicity for HBEF globally, leading to many well-wishers contributing to the Fund’s activities.

The success of the film has catapulted HBEF to a new level of international recognition, and the organization has been receiving unprecedented moral and financial support for its work. A number of people watching the film have made instant donations and pledges to HBEF, and more is expected.

“This is absolutely amazing”, Mr Chris Mburu told reporters following the initial screenings at Sundance, “Our small village-based organization has been elevated into the international stage in just a few days. We have been operating on a shoestring budget of just over 5,000 dollars a year, helping only a handful of needy kids in one Kenyan village, and all of a sudden we receive this kind of instant support”.

The HBEF Board has welcomed the enormous support generated by A Small Act as the signal they awaited all along to expand HBEF operations. Being fully aware that “with fame comes responsibility”, HBEF has fully embraced the task of multiplying sponsorships to match the incoming donations.
