“There is growing concern that teachers demotivation is a leading contributor to declining teacher performance and low education standards in some parts of Kenya”.


The Hilde Back Education Fund’s Pupil and Teacher Support Programme aims to improve quality of education through enhanced pupils and teachers motivation at primary school level.. HBEF is currently running the programme as a pilot project in Ngewa zone, Githunguri District and hopes to expand to the other three districts where it operates.

HBEF’s periodic teacher motivation workshops bring together District Education heads, Head teachers and School Management Committee heads to address the root causes of the low education standards and performance of students within the District. So far, the Fund has held three successful workshops.

Why head teachers and school management committee heads? HBEF targets this group because they are the best change agents for the schools. These groups are vital for the achievement of HBEF’s mission because they are responsible for the school’s curriculum and leadership. HBEF hopes that teachers will rekindle their passion for shaping the minds of Kenya’s future generation.
