Chris Mburu is the founder of the Hilde Back Education Fund. His passion to start the foundation came from the selfless act of a Swedish woman who sponsored his primary education and part of his secondary education.
Chris went on to study law at the University of Nairobi and later complete a Master`s in Law degree from the Harvard Law School, on a Fulbright scholarship.
Chris is currently the United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Congo.
George Kihara Thang`wa has been involved in the operations of the Hilde Back Education Fund since its inception, and acted as the Fund`s coordinator between the years 2002 and 2004.
George holds a Bachelor of Education Degrees from the Moi University, Kenya and a post-graduate diploma in Mass Communications from the University of Nairobi.
An educationist by profession, George is currently involved in the education of refugees and is the Regional Director-Africa at the Refugee Education Trust
Jane has been a board member and a sponsor since the inception of HBEF. She has a strong passion for social justice. She has worked as a Senior Legal Advisor with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNCHR). Jane took a 6-months sabbatical from July to December 2010 to come to Kenya to establish the HBEF Secretariat and to expand the operations of the Fund to a national scale, in line with the sudden growth necessitated by A Small Act. Jane holds a Law Degree (LL. B) from the university of Nairobi and a Masters in Law (LL. M) from Harvard Law School.
Jane is the Founder-Director of the Toolkit for Skills and Innovation Hub.
Martin Njau Mburu was born in Mitahato Village in Kiambu. He received his education in Mombasa and later joined the University of Nairobi where he graduated in 1988 with a BA in Sociology.
A career Marketer/Salesman, Martin worked for Japan Tobacco as C&TM Operations Director for East & Central Africa Region based in Dares Salaam, Tanzania.
He has a strong passion for education and the promotion of the Boy Child Agenda. He has been involved in HBEF since the early days and also is also the Founder and Director of the Corner Brook School, a Boys` High School in which he helps to spear head the Boy Child agenda.
Faith is a member of the HBEF board, and a secondary school English teacher. She has over 30 years of teaching experience, and a woman representative in the Kenya union of post primary schools (KUPPET) Kiambu County. Faith is also a Community worker.
Hilde Back Education Fund (HBEF) is a Kenyan charitable organization that helps provide children from low-income families complete secondary school education in Kenya.
