A Journey Made Possible by the Hilde Back Education Fund
My name is Michael Mwaura Wanjiku, and I am a proud beneficiary of the Hilde Back Education Fund, whose support changed the course of my life.
I joined the Hilde Back Education Fund in 2016, the same year I started my high school journey at Murang’a High School. Through their generous sponsorship, I was able to focus fully on my studies, and in 2019, I successfully completed high school with an A- in my KCSE—a result that opened the door to university education.
In 2020, I joined Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, where I pursued a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Over the course of my five-year study, I developed deep skills in power systems, communication systems, and electrical design, and became a versatile and highly adaptive learner. In May 2025, I officially graduated with a Second-Class Upper Division a proud moment that marks the realization of a long-held dream.
I owe this success to the foundation laid by the Hilde Back Education Fund. Their support didn’t just pay school fees it gave me the confidence, stability, and opportunity to chase my goals and build a better future.
To the Hilde Back Education Fund, I say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your investment in me has borne fruit, and I will forever remain grateful. You have not only transformed my life but also inspired me to give back and be a light to others.
Sponsor Secondary School Education for Bright but Needy children.
The Hilde Back Education Fund (HBEF) is a Kenyan charitable organization that helps provide children from low-income families complete secondary school education in Kenya. The fund’s main focus is to make education a fundamental human right. By awarding various academic scholarships, bright children from disadvantaged backgrounds receive the support they need to achieve proper education, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, and gender. To date, the fund has provided support to 996 beneficiaries who were enrolled in various schools all over the nation.
Starting 2026, sponsors will have an opportunity to sponsor students specializing in the following career pathways: STEM (Science, technology, Engineering & Mathematics), Social sciences and Arts & Sports science for a period of 3 years.
Sponsorship Options:
Full Sponsorship
It will cost a one-off payment of $ 3,000 or $ 1,000 per year or $ 85 per month to support 1 child through senior high school.
Co-Sponsorship
With the Co-Sponsorship option, two sponsors will support 1 child. The cost will be $500 per year or $45 per month for 3 years or a one-off payment of $1500.
Your money will go to paying for a bright needy student to join senior high school and maintain him/her in school for the 3 years it will take to complete senior high school in Kenya. Recruitment and selection take place in December and sponsors are thereafter, informed of their sponsored children. We recruit students who had exemplary results but due to lack of funds are still at home or struggling paying their school fees.
Supporting a child through our fund, provides one the unique opportunity to jointly experience the journey of lives being transformed over time. Sponsors are invited to share, not only monetary donations that are used to support the children, but to become a part of their sponsored child’s life through the exchange of letters. We conduct beneficiary monitoring thrice a year that is April, August and December thereafter sharing a letter from the students and their report cards. During these monitoring sessions, we provide our students with Leadership Skills and Psychosocial support.
