Education is not just a right but a beacon of hope and a gateway to opportunities. The Hilde Back Education Fund (HBEF) has exemplified this belief, driving change through education for over a decade. With a mission to uplift bright yet disadvantaged students, HBEF’s journey is one of resilience, collaboration, and transformation.
In 2024, the fund celebrated significant milestones, having supported 978 students since its founding. Each scholarship acts as a seed for a brighter future. These efforts have led to remarkable achievements, such as the 2023 class’s impressive results—41 out of 44 beneficiaries qualified for university, with 36 already enrolled in various prestigious programs.
These figures represent more than just statistics; they tell the stories of individuals like Victor Gikonyo Murathe, who overcame financial and social obstacles to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Medicine. His journey illustrates how HBEF’s support laid the groundwork for his academic and personal development. Similarly, Judith Prisca, another beneficiary, expressed her gratitude for the fund’s comprehensive approach, which included financial assistance, mentorship, and psychosocial support.
HBEF’s initiatives go beyond scholarships. In 2024, mentorship programs reached 124 beneficiaries across 11 counties, focusing on building self-esteem, self-awareness, and career guidance. Alumni like Peter Nguka, who has thrived academically and professionally, now give back to the community through initiatives like “A Small Act Jamii,” ensuring the cycle of generosity continues.
The fund’s dedication to sustainability and adaptability is clear in its forward-thinking strategies. As Kenya shifts to the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC), HBEF is gearing up to support students entering senior school, emphasising personalized and practical learning. However, the need remains significant.
With the call for 2025 sponsorships, HBEF presents various ways to get involved, from full sponsorships to co-sponsorship options. Your support can make a difference. Support this mission: Sponsor a Student
